This course will teach you how to create an entire skincare and haircare range in solid bar and powder concentrate formats as well as eliminate and reuse packaging, reduce waste, upcycle ingredients and lower your environmental impact.

Zero waste beauty products can be made with some basic kitchen/lab equipment. Here is a list of the equipment you will need:

  • Protective clothing (eg gloves, protective eyewear, mask/respirator when working with powders).
  • Weighing scales, ideally digital scales that measure to 0.1g.
  • Heating equipment to melt ingredients, eg bowls and saucepans to create a double boiler, or lab beakers and a hotplate.
  • Containers/beaker/bowls for weighing and mixing.
  • A thermometer. Inexpensive glass lab thermometers are sufficient.
  • A pestle and mortar or coffee grinder for mixing powders.
  • Spoons and spatulas.
  • Silicone molds.

The ingredients needed for each module of the course are included in that module. Each module contains a section at the start called Key Ingredients or Ingredients used in this class. It contains examples of the ingredients used in the recipes in that class.

We aim to choose ingredients that are easy to find, and many easy-to-obtain ingredients feature on the course.

Some of the ingredients covered in Part 5 Ingredient Innovations may be more difficult to source due to this being a new area of development. We will share the suppliers with you that we have found and as the field grows they will become more widely available.

The course is hosted by the Natural Cosmetic Formulation Club. When you join the course, you’ll find a list of suppliers as well as lots of great resources in the Formulating 101 section of the Club.

We also have a shorter supplier list on our website you might want to look at in the meantime:
