We're delighted you're interested in finding out more about the updated Diploma in Natural Haircare Formulation! The 2nd Edition is a revised, expanded and updated version of the course.
We worked closely with Deborah Johnson, consultant and co-owner of SIMPLYGorgeous hair salon, which specializes in Afro haircare, on course content to ensure the Diploma in Natural Haircare Formulation meets the needs of our students with Afro-textured hair.
You’ll learn about different hair types and curl patterns and how to customize your formulations to suit each type. The course uses the Andre Walker system that classifies curl patterns into Types 1-4. You’ll learn about the structure and properties of each type. You’ll learn how to care for each type, and we’ll share a suggested hair care routine for each hair type.
In the formulating modules, you’ll learn how to customize shampoo, conditioner and hair treatments for different hair types, including Afro-textured hair.
The course also includes product formulations often requested by our students with Afro-textured hair including co-wash, curl custard/pudding, leave-in conditioning cream, sealing products, hair butter, hair and scalp oil, and edge control. We also explore ingredients popular with our Afro-hair community including black castor oil, aloe vera, shea butter, coconut oil and jojoba oil.
